CouchCue Legal

Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 6, 2026 Last updated: July 6, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how CouchCue ("CouchCue," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the CouchCue mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

CouchCue is owned and operated by 1001612386 ONTARIO LTD., doing business as Motovious App Studio, located in Ontario, Canada.

Please read this Policy to understand our information practices and the choices available to you. Where consent is legally required for a specific activity, CouchCue or the applicable provider will request it separately.

1. Scope And Jurisdiction

We operate from Ontario, Canada and are subject to Canadian privacy laws, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), where applicable.

The initial public release targets Canada and the United States. This Privacy Policy describes rights that may apply under Canadian law and applicable U.S. state privacy laws. CouchCue is not initially offered through storefronts in Mexico, the EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or other regions, although public web pages may remain technically accessible outside the launch storefronts.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, information generated through your use of the Service, and limited technical information needed to operate, secure, improve, and support the Service.

Account Information

When you create or use a CouchCue account, we may collect:

  • email address
  • password authentication data, if you create an email/password account
  • sign-in provider identifiers, such as Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple identifiers
  • an encrypted Sign in with Apple revocation credential when needed to disconnect Apple authorization during account deletion
  • account status and account settings
  • confirmation that you meet the minimum account eligibility requirement
  • accepted Terms/user-policy version and acceptance time
  • basic profile or account preferences

We do not receive or store your Apple or Google account password.

App Activity And Preference Data

CouchCue is designed to help you track, organize, and receive recommendations for TV shows and related entertainment content. To provide the Service, we collect and store app activity and preference data, including:

  • watched history
  • saved titles and watchlist items
  • favorite titles
  • ratings
  • shared reviews
  • private notes
  • recommendation preferences
  • feedback signals such as "More like this," "Less like this," "Seen it," and "Not interested"
  • other actions you take inside the app that help personalize your experience

Community Reviews And Moderation

If you submit a shared review, the review text and reviewer attribution may be visible to other CouchCue users unless the review is deleted, hidden, or otherwise not eligible for public display.

Shared review text may be processed by moderation tools or service providers to help detect harmful, abusive, or policy-violating content before or after it appears in the Service. Moderation results may be stored with the review for safety, support, and enforcement purposes.

Private notes are intended only for your own account and are not displayed as community reviews.

TV Metadata

CouchCue uses TVMaze to obtain TV show metadata. TVMaze data may be cached and stored in CouchCue's own database to improve performance and support app features.

CouchCue does not use a movie metadata feed at launch.

Crash And Error Reporting

CouchCue uses Sentry for crash and error reporting when configured. Sentry may collect technical information such as:

  • device type
  • operating system version
  • app version
  • error logs
  • crash reports
  • technical diagnostic data related to app performance and stability

This information is used to identify, debug, and fix technical issues.

Platform-Level Diagnostics

Apple App Store Connect and Google Play Console may provide us with platform-level diagnostic, crash, installation, and performance information. These tools are controlled by Apple and Google and are subject to their respective privacy policies and developer terms.

Advertising Data

CouchCue is expected to be free to download and supported by advertising revenue at launch. CouchCue uses Google AdMob to provide banner advertisements and Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) to collect and manage applicable advertising consent choices.

Advertising partners may collect or receive certain information to display, measure, and improve ads. This may include device information, advertising identifiers, approximate location derived from device or network information, ad interactions, and other information permitted by your device settings and applicable law.

The launch implementation requests non-personalized ads by default. Personalized or cross-app tracking is disabled unless CouchCue intentionally enables it later with the required consent, platform permission, and disclosure updates.

You can usually limit ad tracking or reset your advertising identifier through your device settings.

Information We Do Not Collect At Launch

At launch, CouchCue does not collect:

  • dates of birth
  • user-uploaded photos
  • user-uploaded files
  • profile images
  • push notification tokens, unless push notifications are added later
  • payment card details or subscription billing information, unless paid features are added later

CouchCue does not use Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, or custom product analytics at launch.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • create, authenticate, and manage user accounts
  • provide and operate the CouchCue app
  • save and sync your watchlist, watched history, ratings, reviews, notes, favorites, and preferences
  • personalize recommendations and improve recommendation relevance
  • provide TV metadata and related app features
  • screen, moderate, and manage shared community review content
  • display and support advertising
  • maintain app security and prevent misuse
  • diagnose crashes, bugs, and technical issues
  • respond to support requests
  • comply with legal obligations
  • enforce our Terms of Use

4. Legal Bases For Processing

Where required by applicable law, we process personal information based on one or more of the following legal bases:

  • your consent
  • performance of a contract with you
  • our legitimate interests in operating, securing, improving, and supporting the Service
  • compliance with legal obligations

5. Third-Party Services And Providers

We may share information with third-party service providers that help us operate CouchCue. These providers may include:

  • hosting and database infrastructure providers, including DigitalOcean
  • network, DNS, security, and access-control providers, including Cloudflare
  • authentication providers, including Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple
  • TV metadata providers, including TVMaze
  • moderation service providers, including OpenAI
  • crash and error reporting providers, including Sentry
  • advertising partners and ad networks, including Google AdMob
  • transactional email providers, including Resend
  • Apple and Google platform services

These providers may process information outside your province, state, or country. When information is processed outside Canada, it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction.

6. Advertising And Tracking

CouchCue is expected to be advertising-supported. The launch implementation uses non-personalized AdMob banner requests. Google UMP checks whether consent or privacy choices are required before CouchCue requests ads.

Advertising partners may use technologies such as advertising identifiers, device identifiers, SDKs, and similar tools to provide and measure ads.

You may be able to limit personalized advertising through your device settings, including:

  • Apple: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking
  • Android: Settings > Privacy > Ads, or similar settings depending on your device

When Google UMP reports that privacy options are required, CouchCue provides a Privacy choices control in Account settings. Declining advertising consent or tracking permission does not block account or product functionality.

7. Data Storage And Transfers

We store information using secure cloud infrastructure and databases. Data may be stored or processed in Canada, the United States, or other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.

When information is transferred outside Canada, it may be accessible to foreign courts, governments, regulators, or law enforcement in accordance with local laws.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, improve security, and operate the app.

Account and app activity data is generally retained while your account remains active.

If you delete your account or request deletion, we will delete or anonymize personal information associated with your account, except where retention is required or permitted for legitimate reasons such as:

  • security
  • fraud prevention
  • legal compliance
  • dispute resolution
  • backup integrity
  • debugging or technical records that cannot reasonably be isolated

Our general retention periods are:

  • active account and app-activity data: while the account remains active
  • account-owned data in the live database after confirmed in-app deletion: deleted immediately
  • database backups that may contain deleted data: for a limited period based on the configured backup and point-in-time-recovery window
  • application and request logs: for limited periods reasonably necessary for troubleshooting, security, and service operation
  • provider-held crash/error events and email-delivery metadata: for limited periods based on the configured provider plans and settings
  • security and admin audit records: up to 12 months
  • resolved review reports: up to 12 months
  • abandoned unverified accounts: up to 7 days

We may retain specific records longer where reasonably necessary for legal compliance, fraud or abuse prevention, dispute resolution, or enforcement.

9. Account And Data Deletion

You may request deletion of your CouchCue account and associated data through the app or by contacting support.

When your account is deleted, we will delete or anonymize account information and associated app activity data, including watch history, saved titles, ratings, reviews, private notes, preferences, favorites, and recommendation feedback signals, except where retention is required or permitted by law or for legitimate operational purposes.

For Sign in with Apple accounts, CouchCue attempts to revoke its Apple authorization before local deletion.

If Apple is unavailable or the revocable credential is unavailable, local deletion still completes and the app provides manual Apple-account cleanup guidance.
